LG will be unveiling the G2 smartphone a bit later today and given the frequency of leaks, we suppose these last minute leaks shouldn’t come with much surprise. Yesterday brought a look at the display and digitizer assembly for the handset and today we are seeing a side-by-side compare with the Galaxy S 4.

As we have seen in the past, this is basically offering another look at the LG G2. Of course, those official images should be here within a few hours time. It would be easy to point out some

Vodafone

Twelve more cities by the end of the year; Data in 2GB, 4GB and 8GB allowances

Vodafone UK will be launching its 4G LTE service on Aug. 29, the same day rival operator O2 will be going live with its 4G offering. At launch, Vodafone 4G will only be available in London — so unless you live in the British capital, there's not much reason to care at this stage. (By contrast, O2 says it'll launch in London, Leeds and Bradford.) Vodafone is promising LTE in a further twelve cities by the end of the year, however.

4G plans will be available from Aug. 12, Vodafone says, ahead of the switch-on on the 29th. Vodafone "Red 4G" deals will provide double the data of its existing Vodafone Red packages — which means data will come in 2, 4 and 8-gigabyte bundles.

Best Buy and Walmart among stores selling the new tablet early

The new Nexus 7 won't be officially available until July 30, but that hasn't stopped some of the big-name brick-and-mortar retailers from selling a few tablets to customers ahead of the official date. Tony Hoffman tweets that both he and a friend were able to snag new Nexus 7s from two different Walmart stores. And The Verge is reporting that Best Buy is now selling to customers in-store, including at its Union Square location.

HTC One Mini

Can HTC squeeze the essence of its best phone yet into a smaller, more affordable package?

We’ve made no secret of the fact that the HTC One is our favorite phone of the year so far. Back in March HTC knocked it out of the park with exceptional build quality, a stunning display and fast, well-designed software. And though not entirely perfect — we took issue with image quality from the camera, for instance — it’s been hard to find another device that’s as consistently fast, beautiful and enjoyable to use.

In previous years, HTC’s sold different devices with substantially different designs and features for the mid-range and high-end. However 2013 sees the Taiwanese manufacturer adopting a more consistent approach. As such, this year’s leading mid-range phone is the HTC One Mini, a device which aims to distil the essence of the HTC One into a smaller form factor with a lower price tag.

Nokia Lumia 1020 On Sale By AT&T Now

Fancy picking up the Nokia Lumia 1020 from the folks over at AT&T? If you have answered in the affirmative, you would be pleased to hear that said smartphone is already available for an online purchase via AT&T’s website. Having said that, the pre-order of the Lumia 1020 sold out pretty quickly, although we do not know whether that is attributed to super high sales figures, or is it because of limited stock.

IDC has published its latest quarterly smartphone shipment numbers, which shows an overall increase in global device shipments of 6-percent over the same quarter last year. On an interesting note, part of this growth was attributed to atypical shipment numbers for handset makers outside of the Top 5, including Huawei and Alcatel.

idc_2013q2

Overall global smartphone shipments for the second quarter of this year came in at 432.1 million phones, which is a notable increase over Q2 2012′s 407.7 million. The non-top 5 smartphone makers, meanwhile, saw sales i

Nexus 7, Nexus 4, Nexus 10 And Galaxy Nexus Get Android 4.3

If you have recently picked up a Nexus 4, Nexus 10 or Galaxy Nexus, then you would be pleased to hear that Google did announce at this morning’s breakfast event that Android 4.3, still flying under the Jelly Bean flag, will be making its way to the above mentioned devices. Oh yeah, there is also the slight deviation from the normal path as the second generation Nexus 7 tablet, too, would be on the receiving end of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean right out of the box.
